Health Care Myths
November 1, 2008
A Single Payer System is best. This is a big health care myth. Socialized medicine is perhaps not the best system to have. In Canada, there is a huge number of citizens languishing on waiting lists for surgeries as well a other necessary treatments. There is a shortage of doctors and this is really terrible. In America, women with breast cancer have a survival rate of 83.9 percent and the survival rate for British women is 69.7 percetn
The whole world falls back from the US on cancer treatment. Another myth is that the exploding cost of American health care is harming businesses and families. Although a lot is spent by Americans on health care, there is a lot of value in that money.
Preventive care is another myth that many politicians propogate. However, much of the evidence suggesting how this helps us is mixed. Although prevention may lead to longer lives, it does not lower health care costs.
The next myth on health insurance is that 16 percent of Americans are uninsured, this may not be true. There may be less uninsured people than we had earlier imagined.
