Child Health Coverage Expansion Recieves Nod
If you are one of those whose children need health insurance, you may be in for some solace. There are 4 mn uninsured children today in the US. The US house of reps this week voted in fovor of approving the Childrnes Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act to expand as well as renew SCHIP. SCHIP is the State Childrens Health Insurance Plan.
Now 11 mn children will be covered under SCHIP as opposed to 7 mn currently. The annual cost currently is $25 billion. Cigarette taxes will be increased by 61 percent to pay for the increase in the SCHIP costs.
According to President Barack Obama reauthorizing and expanding SCHIP are among the first things he will do in office. This will be a reversal of two vetoes by President Bush. If the family income meets a certain level, children qualify for SCHIP insurance.
Family insurance coverage is hardly offered in these times. For such families these new moves with SCHIP are more than welcome.
