Why a public health care plan is needed
73 percent of people and President Obama support a new public health care plan that will compete with private insurers. In such a plan, there will be equality and transparency. The CPC threatened to vote against a plan that does not have a public plan option. CPC members support a public plan that has a level playing field with private plans.
Max Baucus said that the public plan was meant as a bargaining tool that would encourage the private health insurance industry to be able to move in the right direction. Health insurance reform meant eliminating pre-existing conditions, guaranteed issue, modified community rating. A public plan was not needed to achieve health care reform according to Max Baucus.
According to the insurance industry, a new public plan would leave medical providers underpaid, with increased costs for Americans with insurance and other issues. There seemed to be no GOP support for a health insurance plan with a government option. However a public plan could lead to competition and lower premiums, innovation and an improvement in health care quality.
This is the case for a public health care plan and it is a very strong case for it.
