Support For Health Insurance Mandate
The health insurance has been demanding that all Americans be required to obtain coverage. This is part of the healthcare overhaul that is being planned. This idea is being promoted by a coalition of business and consumer groups and a senior senate Democrat.
According to Max Baucus, a health insurance mandate would make the market function better and reduce per person costs. According to Baucus the costs for people with no insurance is shifted to those with it and this raises costs.
Every individual should be obligated to get health insurance according to Max Baucus. The “Health Reform Dialogue” a coalition of people with a stake in health insurance had agreed on a mandate requiring all Americans to get health insurance.
Federal subsidies are also being mooted as a way to help Americans pay for coverage. Included in this coalition are AARP, American Health Association, America’s Health Insurance Plans, Families USA, Business Roundtable and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
