Stimulus Plan to Expand Health Insurance
Having health insurance is as important as having food and shelter and this is why President elect Barack Obama is working on a new plan to act as a stimulus to health insurance. The 500 mn plan is on next month as part of the economic recovery legislation. The argument is that the billions of dollars spent on a number of health programs will benefit the economy as a whole.
This plan is supposed to act as down payment for promises of broader health care reform. Although the economy is in a state of emergency, health care reform cannot be put off, it is argued because this is part of the emergency and solving this problem will help the larger issues that face the economy.
Obama has promised to increase federal Medicaid spending by more than $40 bn in 2 years. In addition there is to be a substantial investment in health information technology. On the anvil is the possiblity that there will be more investments to retrain medical workers, an extension of the SCHIP and more.
With health care addressed, bankruptcies would decrease and American competitiveness would increase. Investing in the health of America is essential to its economic recovery is the general opinion of the people.
