Choosing a Health Insurance Plan Made Easy
November 8, 2008
When it comes to health insurance there are so many choices, it is staggering. It is no fun to go over the myriad health insurance alternatives available. But it needs to be done to choose the correct option without spending too much in these times of recession.
Check out how flexible the plan you choose is. Some plans allow you more flexibility in choosing caregivers. If you have a chronic illness like diabetes, you may want to go for a point of service plan or a preferred provider organization plan. In a HMO, your access is limited to physicians in a certain network, this is good for someone who is young and healthy.
Also take a look at the provider network. See if the physicians you go to are in the plan. See if you can couple a special fund with catastrophic care. See if the plans set an annual limit on coverage for medications. Check the formulary to see your copay. Medicines by mail are offered by certain plans.
FSA’s should be tax deductible for you to save on tax. Check out what incentives are offered to you to take a health risk assessment, control your diabetes or stop smoking. Use the online cost estimators provided by your employer for comparing plans.
If you make the effort to choose the right plan, it will pay in the long run.
