All Kids May Be Covered By 2010
June 6, 2008
With the expansion in health coverage and the signing of SB 160 and SB 161, all kids may be covered by 2010. On June 3rd the said bills were signed by Governor Bill Ritter. Barriers to health coverage were reduced by these bills.
Lieutenant Governor Barbara O’Brien said that “Our children deserve nothing less” than for them to have access to quality health care and learning. She said she was committed to ensuring that access.
The bill was sponsored by Senators Bob Hagedorn and Representative Ann McGihon. It seeks to expand health insurance for children who are not yet insured by the CHP+ program. The eligibility has been increased from 205 percent of the Federal Poverty level to 225%.
SB 161 is about reducing barriers to children enrolling in CHP+ and Medicaid. Stacey Moody says that healthy strong kids created a healthy strong state and that was what was wanted in Colorado. Statistics show that quality affordable care still eludes 1 in 5 Colorado kids.
