Genetic Discrimination is History!

Genetic Discrimination is now against the law whether the discrimination is for insurance or employment. The Genetic Information Discrimination Act (HR 493) was signed by the president, Wednesday. This prohibits insurers and employers from discrimination on the grounds of genetic information.
Genetic testing results cannot be used by health plans and insurance companies to set coverage rates or determine eligibility. In addition, genetic information cannot be used by employers making hiring, firing, promotion or other job decisions.

Increase in Health Premium Complaints

There has been a huge increase in the complaints about hikes in private health insurance premiums. In fact the spike is 114 percent this March compared to March last year.
In the background the argument about changes to Medicare levy surcharge continues between doctors and funds. This could lead to a greater increase in premium in the case of one million people abandoning private cover.

Doctors do not make as much money as you may imagine - an average of $200,000. In addition they may now have to pay about $50000 over 5 years towards medical malpractice insurance. This is why more physicians favor a national health insurance program than before. More doctors feel that the present system obstructs good patient care.
